Hot! Graveyard of Empires

Image comics officially beefed up its offering to the zombie comic genre with its upcoming release, “Graveyard of Empires.” There was a recent preview in the newest issue of Chew and from what I’ve read so far, I like it. The story is set in modern day Afghanistan, hence the title of the comic being the war torn country’s nickname. Co-creator Mark Sable has done research on the conflict in the Middle East and has promised to bring a realistic feel to his work:

This is not just another zombie book. Yes, if you like zombies, you’ll get them, and you’ll see them used in unique ways. But this is first and foremost a war comic. Paul and I did an incredible amount of research, and I think you’d be hard pressed to find a comic that depicts the reality of war in Afghanistan.

In essence, Sable’s initial pitch to Image was “Dawn of the Dead” meets “Hurt Locker.” Not only will readers get to see the absolute worst of the Afganistan conflict, but also mankind’s indomitable will to survive and thrive in the face of extinction. Fans of the epic “The Walking Dead” series now have another gritty comic to sink their teeth into while waiting for new issues.

Image ok-ed a one of three run, and if Graveyard is well received, we could see even more volumes being printed in the future. Stay tuned for more info when the first issue releases.
