TV: Dumbass Shoots Himself In The Thumb On Nat Geo’s “Doomsday Preppers”
Survivalist Tim Ralston is vehement about his views on a potential disaster leaving the world in ruins. I can respect that. Then he fails to utilize a gun he was using properly and blows part of his thumb off, which he later blames as a “misfire.” That I can’t respect. Based on the footage, it’s implied the injury occurred while shooting a revolver. The result? A midget thumb. Not to rain on the already sh*tty day he had, but if you fancy yourself a pro shooter, you’d know not to use the same grip on a revolver as you would a pistol. Thumb over thumb for revolver, weak side hand thumb in front of strong side thumb on a pistol. What’s terrible about Ralston is that he didn’t admit he made a mistake. He blames the gun and sheepishly passes out. While I do feel bad about the injury he suffered, you only get better at a skill set by admitting your own mistakes and working on them. There’s other very similar examples of Ralston’s injury on Warrior Talk where using the improper grip, the shooter’s thumb got FUBAR (f*cked up beyond all recognition) from cylinder side blast.
Timmay (see what I did there?) has attempted to defend himself on the Defensive Carry Forums, stating he was working on a prototype gun. Call me a skeptic, but I gotta call shenanigans. Because he already admitted to sweeping his hand in front of the muzzle which is a huge no-no. Thanks Tim. You just made responsible gun owners look like idiots, and idiot gun owners look even more idiotic.
