Go Off The Grid With This Solar Powered Instructable
In my home state of California, solar powered homes are becoming more and more popular. With governmental tax credits and lower power bills sweetening the deal, I’m starting to see a lot of panels go up on roofs. Hell, at some point I want to go greener as well. One of the issues homeowners might run into is that this somewhat new technology is pretty specialized and thus comes with a high price tag.
To help offset the cost of installation, green companies offer free installation, you just pay them for the power you use. Definitely easier on the pockets, but there are going to be concerns about malfunctions. What’s the response time from the company? Can you switch back to your normal power provider? What happens if the grid goes down indefinitely? Welp, worry no more fellow DIY’ers. Genius Instructabler MacOSJoey released a tutorial on how to create your own home solar powered system. Learn from his mistakes regarding batteries and cell sizes, and take a look at the comments. With some good ole man/womanpower, you too can prepare to power your home when disaster strikes the power grid.
Granted, the setup isn’t polished but why bother with making things look aesthetically nice if you’re going through constant trial and error? If any of you out there use this, I want to hear about it and I definitely want pictures. I’m already making plans myself to utilize this down the line.
