The Walking Dead Facebook Game Is Now Online!
The Walking Dead Facebook Game/Social Game is finally here. And while the game is only in an open beta stage, it hasn’t disappointed at all. Thankfully the game makers didn’t go the Mafia Wars route with turn based action but rather modeled the game after the ever popular and boring Farmville.
Players can customize their looks and with bonuses in game upgrade vision, stamina, movement, striking, and shooting. Oddly enough, Shane acts as your tutor in the game so I upgraded striking and shooting just in case dude wanted to Otis me. Not on my watch Shane, not on my watch. The game definitely starts you off on an easy learning curve, as I only had to kill two walkers in total before retreating back to camp with my first real mission completed. SUCCESS! The more friends you invite the more upgrades you get, like free energy and currency to use in-game. Once your stamina is diminished or you complete your mission, you return to camp with supplies. And then the rumblings start about Shane and his leadership.
In the first chapter, your group starts off as a group of survivors before Rick is reunited with his family. Which brings up some questions for me. Is my character destined to die before Rick makes it to the group? Does Shane put opposition down secretly when no one is looking? And why is Rick smiling as he’s gunning down walkers during the intro? All of these questions will hopefully be laid to rest once I beat the game. Which may or may not happen during working hours. Can you blame me? And while the game might play rather easily, the difficulty level is set to make it a challenge. You’re armed initially with just a bat as a weapon, and any misstep can create a serious in your dent and stamina. Even if the game is similar to turn based strategy, timing is still a factor as walkers shamble around in patterns that aren’t too easy to predict. Now if you excuse me I’m off to my second go round of The Walking Dead Facebook Game. WOOT!
